More White Than Green Ahead

Dealing with the cold is one thing in March.  Having to deal with another winter-like mess of snow, sleet, and rain is another.  That hand is dealt to us Monday night and Tuesday.

Let's get to the St. Paddy's Day forecast first.  It'll be cold and breezy, highs in the mid 30s with wind chills down in the mid 20s, but at least we have the sunshine!  The core of the cold settles in overnight, with many of the suburbs dropping off into the mid teens and even some upper single digits possible in places like Pepperell and Orange.  That cold air set's the stage for Monday night and Tuesday's mess as it's slow to leave.

Storm Headlines:

-Starts well after the evening commute Monday... for most, it'll start near midnight.

-Initial burst of precip is mostly snow, even at the coast, and possibly the Cape too from Midnight-4AM.  

-Snow turns to rain quickly at the coast,  before the Tue AM commute

-Despite turning to rain in Boston before the commute, up to a few inches that falls by the change-over by 4-5AM, creates a slushy mess

-Between 128 and 495, some mixing with sleet and rain is likely by the AM commute esp. near 128 (7-9AM), but a slow and slippery ride is expected.

-Northwest of 495, the cold holds and it's mainly snow, from Worcester, points north through the morning.   Change to sleet/frz rain there in the PM.

-Onshore winds are strong Tuesday morning, but not nearly as strong or as prolonged as last storm

-High tides also astronomically low... coastal flooding won't be nearly as extensive as last storm.  Minor erosion/splash over still possible.

Pretty Good Weekend Overall

Sure, it's a cool start with many of the suburbs down into the upper 30s and lower 40s, but we'll warm up quickly through the day as that sun helps us out.

An overall cooler day, but also a great end to the workweek as highs neared 70, low humidity continued and plenty of sunshine dominated the skies.  Now all we need is this to continue through the weekend right?

Still Good

How about yesterday?  The 82 in Boston matched the warmest temp we've had since September 13th.  Of course, with a wind gusting past 30mph and relative humidity near 18%, it certainly didn't feel oppressive. 

Top 10?

Lower 80s, low humidity and sunshine... would you call it a top 10 kind of day?  Only complaint, other than it not being the weekend, is maybe the wind was a bit much?  It certainly was gusty, at times blowing 30-35mph.  No sea breeze will move inland with a strong west wind like that.
