NEWARK, N.J. (WHDH) -- Six members of a New Jersey family were forced to make a death-defying leap from the third floor of their burning apartment building. The incident was all caught on video.

The fire started around 12:30 a.m. after a candle was left burning -- the power hadn’t been turned on in their new home.

The oldest sister, Yakeemah, broke her toes when she hit the ground, but she screamed for help and passersby gathered. As the family jumped one by one, they hit an awning and were caught by people on the ground.

Check out the video to hear more of the family’s story.
