NORTHBRIDGE, Mass. (WHDH) -- A police chase ended with an officer getting stabbed with an 18-inch spear.

The officer pulled 27-year-old Adam Tillison over when he was on his way to his brother’s house to deliver some newspapers. Tillison had a warrant out for his arrest, he didn’t have a registered car or a driver’s license and he was speeding. When the officer pulled him over, he took off.

Tillison led the officer on a high-speed chase that ended with a confrontation at his apartment.

The weapon is like something you'd see in a martial arts movie.

“The blade has got to be a good foot and a half long, 18 inches. These are razor sharp,” said Walter Warchol, chief of the Northbridge Police Department.

Officer Tom Dejordy suffered puncture wounds to his rib cage, his elbow and he also had defensive wounds. But he's going to be okay.

A police report said Milford police had tried to stop Tillison in his 2003

Jaguar, but he allegedly took off and was met by Northbridge police at his apartment.

As officers tried to arrest him, there was a struggle and according to the police report, Tillison ran upstairs for the spear and screamed repeatedly, "I’m going to [expletive] kill you!"

“He lunged and thrust into the officer’s chest. If it had not been for the ballistic vest, I’m sure it would have been a different outcome. It could have been very serious or fatal injuries,” said Chief Warchol.

Several neighbors said they have been avoiding Tillison because he is prone to violent fits of anger. Neighbors said on Thursday, he broke apart a children’s play set.

Police said Tillison is a veteran who served in Afghanistan. Neighbors

said he usually keeps to himself.

“When he does come outside it's usually for a fit. One time he was like climbing, trying to scale the house,” said neighbor, Shannon Duggan.

“I’m kinda upset the way things went down. He needs help. I don’t think anybody’s been helping him,” said Tina Opatka, neighbor.

Tillison faces 14 serious charges, including attempted murder. He is being held without bail and will appear in court for a dangerousness hearing on Tuesday.
