WORCESTER, Mass. (WHDH) -- Wednesday’s storm has come and gone, but it left a messy mark. Snow blanketed the Boston area which made travel difficult in some areas.

As much as half a foot of snow fell in some parts of the region and it made for a tough morning commute.

Just as the morning commute was getting underway the storm rolled in, which put drivers and snow removal crews on the road all at once.

“It came in right through the morning. Normally we’ll have everything done by five or six in the morning,” said Patrick Barry, a snow plow operator.

With not a lot of these storms so far this season most couldn’t complain, but others can do without the tricky conditions on the roads.

Children said waking up to school being canceled was like a late Christmas present.

By late morning the snow switched to rain making shoveling the sidewalk a little more exhausting.

Police said there were some accidents Wednesday morning, but mostly minor. There were no injuries.

Highway crews will be out during the night salting and sanding the roads.
