Patriots fans react to the loss

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (WHDH) -- Fans filed out of Gillette Stadium disappointed after the Patriots lost their first home game of the season to the Arizona Cardinals.
Fans were stunned that the team not only failed to play well throughout the game, but at the end of the game, when there was still hope, the team just couldn’t clinch the win.
Every Pats fan had high hopes coming in.
“I look forward to it every year. It’s the best day of the season,” said one fan.
But, they all left less than pleased.
“Everyone’s disappointed,” said another fan.
Fans offered their two cents on where the team fell short.
“Defense played great again, two games in a row you’ve seen a good defensive effort. Offense took a while to click. You wonder if Hernandez going out early… did that impact the game plan or something,” said a fan.
After week one’s win, there were already whispers of a perfect season. The loss on Sunday ended that dream and also broke another streak. The Patriots have never lost a home opener at Gillette, until this game.
But, fans remain hopeful about the duration of the season.
“I’d rather a loss in week two than week nineteen,” said one optimistic fan.
“They got their loss out of the way,” said another.
But other said the Patriots just made it too easy for the Cardinals.
“They seemed to know the plays before they happened and react perfectly to every play. It was amazing. It was supernatural,” said another fan.
Sure, after a loss everyone is a football expert and a critic, but one theme resounded throughout the gripe. Fans believed the team played too conservatively; that they should have been going for it more and passing more on the third down.
Only time will tell if this team can turn it around.
