BRIDGEWATER, Mass. (WHDH) -- Bridgewater Police were looking for a man who robbed a casket at a funeral home.

Just two hours before the deceased was laid to rest, they said a man went into the Prophett-Chapman funeral home in January claiming to be family of the woman who died.

He asked the home's director if he could go in to say a prayer for her.

When the family arrived later, they noticed a piece of jewelry was missing - a gold necklace holding the wedding band of the woman's late husband.

"What makes it kind of tragic, in talking to the family I guess, the deceased party, this was a necklace that she wore everyday and has obvious sentimental value,” said Lt. Tom Schlatz of the Bridgewater Police Department.

Police said they do have a suspect and there's a good chance he's related to the family.

They expect to make an arrest soon.
