DUXBURY, Mass. (WHDH) -- Police are looking for a man who is accused of breaking into a Duxbury police officer’s home in Duxbury on Monday.

The officer had just finished working the overnight shift and was asleep when the intruder entered his home at around 1 p.m.

“He was asleep in his home when the front door of his house was kicked in and an individual quickly ran up the stairwell and burst into the room he was sleeping in. There was an encounter in that room -- a very brief encounter. The suspect then quickly fled,” said Chief Matthew Clancy of the Duxbury Police Department.

Police used search dogs in an aggressive manhunt through the wooded neighborhood.

Police said there were two other nearby home break-ins Monday -- one in Kingston and another in Duxbury. There is no word on if they are all connected.

The intruder at the police officer’s home is described as a man in his late 20’s and unarmed.

While no one was hurt, police said it was a dramatic encounter.

“I think they were both surprised, but we’re very, very thankful and fortunate that there wasn’t a struggle in this room…this individual pretty quickly turned and fled,” said Clancy.

Police believe the suspect has fled the area.
