PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- The town manager in one coastal Rhode Island community hard hit by Superstorm Sandy says the nor'easter on the way is forcing the suspension of some recovery efforts.

Westerly Town Manager Steven Hartford tells The Associated Press that residents in the Misquamicut (mis-KWA'-mih-cut) area have been making "slow but steady" progress recovering. But he says volunteer operations are being suspended until Friday and a drop-off station for sand that blanketed their properties is closing temporarily. Town crews are out cleaning storm drains.

The nor'easter has prompted a high wind advisory for parts of Rhode Island through Thursday morning. It's expected to bring rain and possibly light snow to some areas.

Hartford says the storm could bring some street flooding, and sand and debris could blow back into newly cleared streets.
