BRAINTREE, Mass. (WHDH) -- Volunteers at a haunted house that’s been raising money for a local school for 30 years say thieves stole two of their trailers used to store props.

Braintree's haunted house aside -- the most frightening thing in the town may just be someone had the nerve to steal from a local charity.

“I mean it’s a shame, you’re stealing from children,” said one woman.

Volunteers first noticed two trailers were missing early Wednesday. Inside were props organizers used to put on an all-volunteer-based haunted house that raises money for local schools.

“I mean they’ve been there 10, 12 years. Didn’t think they could move,” said Peter Canelli, a volunteer organizer.

“I think a lot of us are in complete disbelief. First of all, how do you steal 53-foot trailers and secondly, how do you steal from a charity?” said Jay Nelson, volunteer organizer.

Organizers can't put a price on what was stolen; they are baffled anyone would steal from volunteers just trying to help local kids.

“Who steals from children? I mean tough economic times but who steals from children?” asked Nancy Puliafico, a parent.

Volunteers say the biggest problem is they don’t have a place to store their props once the haunted house closes for the season.
