BROCKTON, Mass. (WHDH) -- Bill Burnham is still in shock following the death of his wife Maryanne Kotsiopolous, who died Friday afternoon at a Brockton intersection, just two weeks shy of her 50th birthday.

“She’s an angel. Not just to me, to everybody,” said Burnham. “I’m going to have to rely on memories to help me deal with what just happened to her.”

Undercover Brockton detectives were chasing a suspect wanted for dealing drugs. He allegedly sped through an intersection and smashed into Kotsiopolous, who was at the wheel of a Jaguar bill had given her as an early birthday present. The crash caused a chain-reaction collision, eight cars were damaged.

One witness reported Kotsiopolous’ Jaguar was airborne and police reports obtained by 7News said the suspect ran from the scene after driving his Chevy Trailblazer “at a high rate of speed.”

Burnham wonders if the chase was appropriate.

“Got angry, of course I am…It just want to get through what I’m getting through,” said Burnham.

The Plymouth County District Attorney will decide if the chase was appropriate.
