Rhode Island woman attacked by fisher cat
LINCOLN, R.I. (WHDH) -- A Rhode Island woman was in the hospital for several days after being attacked by an animal known as a "fisher."
Tracey Chartier was outside with her dog Wednesday when she noticed the unusual animal, typically called a "fisher cat," in the backyard.
Chartier believed it was going to attack her dog, so she used her bare foot to kick the fisher, but the animal then clawed Chartier's foot.
"I'm a nervous wreck to go in the backyard. My husband is a nervous wreck to go in the backyard, the kids...I don't know what's there or what's going to come out,” said Chartier.
The fisher ran back into the woods following the incident.
Chartier is now battling a serious infection and is receiving rabies shots.
She said her dog, Bruno, is okay, but traumatized.
