DEDHAM, Mass. (WHDH) -- Police and school officials are investigating reports of hazing at Dedham High School.

Authorities declined to go into detail about what happened, citing federal and state laws preventing them from commenting on individual student behavior. Police said they have identified a possible victim and possible suspects.

The hazing allegations were reported last Friday. Superintendent June Doe said a number of students were involved. She released a statement saying: “It’s painful to report that the investigation has produced information to conclude that there was a violation of the school district’s anti-bullying, anti-hazing policy.”

Dedham police said they are investigating the allegations.

“Right now we have some officers that are investigating a situation that was reported to us last Friday in conjunction with the school departments. Right now we can’t release any specifics on the investigation. It’s an ongoing investigation and that’s about all we can tell you at this point in time,” said Chief Michael Dentremont of the Dedham Police Department. “There is a victim that is involved and there are a couple of suspects.”

Students said the allegations involve athletes.

“It involves some of the kids from the football team,” said Lexi Tropeano, a student. “Just some hazing activities were happening and not really going to go into detail, but yeah.”

Police said they are in the process of interviewing students, coaches and anyone else who might have information.
