CRANSTON, R.I. (WHDH) -- A youth football league in Rhode Island is the target of a cruel crime.

The snack bar at Rice Field was robbed.

It’s home to Coventry Youth Football and Cheerleading.

Police say someone stole candy and food from the shack right before the team's first game.

"We’re talking 1500 to 1800 dollars worth of stuff. That’s a lot of money for a youth organization. It’s a big hit for us to take,”

the snack bar helps the league pay its bills.

coaches and players are now hoping whoever took the food has a change of heart and returns the items.
