Taunton Papa John's clerk injured in pizza mix-up

TAUNTON, Mass. (WHDH) -- A pizza mix-up led to a fight between a customer and a clerk at a Taunton Papa John’s.
“It looked like a murder scene actually inside the store. It was horrible,” said Derek Lauber, Papa John’s clerk.
Derek Lauber’s hands were bandaged after he was hurled through the front glass window before the suspect took off.
“And I came around the counter, and I tackled him into the wall right here and that’s when I smashed into the glass,” Lauber said.
The 20-year-old, who has worked at the pizza shop for more than two years, says a customer came in complaining his pizza wasn’t ready. When the suspect went to hit a female coworker, Lauber intervened.
“I was just more focused on trying to stop the incident from occurring or stop the situation from escalating, and trying to protect my coworkers,” said Lauber.
The pizza shop was robbed at knife point last month.
“I tell my employees pretty much, you know, be alert, constantly preaching safety,” said Sarah Mosher, Papa John’s manager.
Investigators hope to track down the suspect.
Lauber, who needed several stitches, says it’s hard to believe the ordeal unfolded over a small pizza.
“It was over a small pizza and a soda. How angry can you get over a pizza?” Lauber said.
Taunton police say the suspect was last seen leaving the Papa John’s parking lot in a white Maxima.
