ATTLEBORO, Mass. (WHDH) -- A baby boy and his mother survived a close call when an alleged drunk driver nearly ran them over in Attleboro Sunday night.

The suspect, Jesse Coreas of Attleboro, faces a DUI charge after allegedly hitting the young mother and only missing her son -- who was strapped in a stroller -- by two feet.

Angela Houle clung to her 13-month-old son Carter, who was sitting in a stroller when Houle was transferring his car seat to her truck and an alleged drunk driver veered off the road and into their yard.

“They came straight across, rammed into the truck that I was putting the car seat in that was in between the two doors. I got thrown in between the two doors, into his truck, and then thrown down on the ground,” Houle said. “And when I saw him near the baby, I went to go get out of the truck and I guess that’s when he hit it and I went down. I don’t really remember much.”

After allegedly striking Houle, Coreas stopped the car, barely missing Carter.

“My boyfriend helped me get up and they went over to his car door, he still had his foot on the pedal, hands on the wheel thinking that he was still driving. He didn’t think he did anything wrong. He had no idea where he was, who he was. Very traumatic, very, very traumatic,” Houle said.

Houle has a badly cut hand, scrapped arm, and swollen hip. But the young mom says as long as Carter's okay, she can live with what happened.

“A lot of it is the what if’s. The what if I had the stroller over there with me, putting the car seat in. He would have been hit and gone. Definitely an angel watching over,” Houle said.

Coreas is out of jail on personal recognizance after pleading not guilty to the charges.
