2-year-old girl drowns in Brockton pool

BROCKTON, Mass. (WHDH) -- A 2-year-old girl drowned in a neighbor’s above-ground pool in Brockton on Sunday evening.
Police said the Yandeliz del Carmen Claudio walked over to the home’s backyard and climbed a ladder to enter the pool. The pool is 3-to-4-feet deep and does not have a fence around it.
A neighbor said relatives asked if anyone spotted the girl and they then found her floating face up in the water. Neighbors pulled the child out of the water and performed CPR.
“We ran to the pool because that’s the first thing that I thought and she was lying face up,” said Tabatha Toy, who pulled the girl from the pool. “And I just pulled her out.”
Neighbors said Yandeliz lived two doors down and walked to the home’s backyard and climbed a ladder to enter the pool.
Natalianna Terry, 15, saw Yandeliz standing on the pool’s ladder.
“I told my mom, ‘Nobody’s watching this little girl she’s going to fall in the pool and drowned.’ But then I thought of it and I was like they live over there, so most likely someone has to be watching this little girl because she’s so young,” said Terry.
The homeowners did not know the toddler was there. A short time later a family member was frantically searching the neighborhood. That’s when they found the child floating in the pool.
“I gave her CPR and when I gave her mouth-to-mouth she started throwing up and I thought that was a sign that she was going to be okay because so much water came out…When I checked her pulse she had no pulse when I did it on her neck,” said Terry, who was certified last May in CPR.
Emergency crews took Yandeliz to the Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
Yandeliz is being remembered as a loving child. She was the youngest of four children, the only girl.
Brockton police and state police are both investigating. It is unclear if anyone will face any charges.
