FOXBORO, Mass. (WHDH) -- Police arrested a man after finding homemade explosives in his hotel room in Foxboro Friday.

It happened at the America's Best Value Inn.

Police say they had been investigating Steven Mudge for a series of home break-ins when they discovered the explosives.  Police had a warrant for the man and took him into custody based on that investigation.

Police say when they were searching the motel room they found eight homemade explosives. Local police say the explosives appear to be similar to fireworks.

Local police then called the fire department and the State Police bomb squad.  Approximately 20 people in the motel had to be evacuated.

Mudge, who had already been taken into custody on break-in charges, has been charged with having eight homemade explosives.

The bomb squad was able to dismantle the explosives successfully.

Mudge is being held without bail.
