LITTLETON, Mass. (WHDH) -- In Littleton, firefighters raced to rescue a toddler in the water.

The Middlesex District Attorney said a ten-month-old was rushed to the hospital.

The child was rescued from a small pond. Right now the D.A. is calling it an accident. Neighbors said they were shocked to hear the news.

“It’s tragic. It's awful. Our heart goes out to them and we hope everything is okay with our little boy,” said neighbor Jenny Outman.

Littleton Police and Middlesex District Attorney are now investigating.

The child remains in critical condition at a hospital.
