Taunton teacher faces 2nd statutory rape charge
TAUNTON, Mass. (WHDH) -- A second person has come forward accusing a Taunton teacher of aggravated statutory rape.
Patrick Doyle, 33, was arraigned in Taunton District Court Tuesday after a second 14-year-old girl came forward claiming the Taunton High School teacher had sex with her.
Prosecutors say it happened inside a classroom at the high school during a “free period.”
Residents called the allegations disturbing.
“It’s horrifying to think that your kids could be in a safe place and it turns out there’s someone that is putting them at risk,” said Karen Lloyd, a concerned parent.
Doyle, a Social Studies teacher, was already arraigned a week ago on charges he had sex at his home and was sexting with a 14-year-old girl who was also a student of his.
"A lot of kids were talking about it. It's going around the entire school," said Alexis Grant-Leonelli, an 8th grade student. "One of the girls used to go to his house, and I was like, 'That's just disturbing.'"
Doyle’s former students say the charges are shocking.
“No signs, nothing. He always was nice to me, shook my hand ‘cause I had him in 8th grade but you couldn’t tell,” said Ryan Greene, suspect’s former student.
The superintendent of schools had no comment. But in a letter sent to parents she wrote, “…processes have been put in place to remove the employee from the payroll, and a termination hearing will be set.”
“You never thing, ‘Wow, something awful is going to happen,’ and if you hear something like that, you’re like, ‘Wow,’” said Francie Noone, a concerned parent.
Doyle’s lawyer says his client denies the allegations.
“He’s cooperated 100 percent with the authorities, the police, with the court in every stage. He looks forward to his day in court challenging the allegations,” said Lefteris Cravayiakis, defense attorney.
Doyle, who originally posted bail of $100,000, is being held without bail and is due back in court on Monday for a dangerousness hearing.
