Man breaking into houses, climbing in beds with women
TAUNTON, Mass. (WHDH) -- A man in Taunton is reportedly sneaking into homes and stealing jewelry, but police say it’s what he’s doing after that has women in the neighborhood even more on edge.
Several women reported waking up to find a stranger in their beds in Taunton. There have been three incidents in three months. Taunton officials believe it is the same man. The suspect has reportedly stolen jewelry from two homes.
The latest victim woke up screaming to find a man underneath her covers. She said she was sexually assaulted. In another incident, investigators said the woman was in bed with another person when the man broke in.
“The suspect had crawled in bed with the victims of the break,” said Lt. Paul Roderick, Taunton police dept.
According to police the break-ins were all reported on three streets. Neighbors said they are scared.
People in Taunton have been advised to take no chances until the man is caught. The neighborhoods being targeted are near Clinton and Barnham Streets. Police said that when they spoke with one of the victims, the man apparently told her he was homeless and hungry.
Investigators are continuing to remind people to lock their doors, even windows up on the second floor.
