Soon-to-be principal mistakenly sends email to parents
HINGHAM, Mass. (WHDH) -- Hingham Middle School Assistant Principal made a technology mistake everyone can all relate to.
Derek Smith, soon-to-be principal of Hingham Middle School, sent an email to more people than he intended.
The email was regarding an end-of-the-year cookout for the faculty and staff. The problem was, he didn’t only send it to the faculty; he accidentally sent it to parents in town too.
The email was full of lighthearted jokes and a list of activities that would take place at the cookout.
“And then I had a moment of panic,” said Smith. But he immediately typed up an apology email.
Parents got a good laugh from it.
“I figured we would have heard about it first anyway, and we did’t. But then when the second email came about, oops it was a mistake, that was funny,” said one parent.
Smith is well loved in the community and he said he was grateful for all the kind replies.
“The inbox was filled when I came back with really great responses from parents who laughed at my expense, along with me, with a lot of jokes about their disappointment at not being invited anymore, practicing their cannonballs, wondering how we were going to fit 975 students in a neighborhood pool. And that really told me what a great community I get to work in,” said Smith.
The pool party will go on as planned, but only faculty from Hingham Middle School will be invited.
