Westport PD search for suspect after church vandalized
WESTPORT, Mass. (WHDH) -- Police in Westport searched for a vandal who targeted a church.
Officers said someone entered the St. John the Baptist church late Friday or early Saturday and broke a crucifix.
The person also knocked over items and stole a tabernacle, a chalice and brass candlesticks.
According to the Herald, the reverend of the church said the crime was an act of hate.
The church had replacements for all items and still, so Sunday mass went on as scheduled.
Investigators said they don't know how the person responsible for the crime managed to get inside the locked church.
