Storm surge a major concern in Scituate
SCITUATE, Mass. (WHDH) -- As high tide approaches, the waves in Scituate have started crushing the coast.
Police are urging residents to evacuate as coastal flooding and a storm surge are major concerns.
In the Humarock section of Scituate, police went door to door warning people the storm will cut off access to emergency vehicles.
“Got a visit from police asking us to leave, so we’re going to leave. Just making some final preparations and we’ll get a few things out of the house and board it up and we’ll be gone,” said Richard Drea.
One road in Scituate will be washed out as the tide comes in during the storm. The town will send front-end loaders to the area to pile up debris to clear the roads.
“It’s the price you pay when you live by water -- the chances you take. So if something happens, it happens, and we’ll rebuild,” said Drea.
As of 6:30 p.m., Scituate had sustained winds up to 55 mph.
