CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (WHDH) -- A woman found a wedding band in a garage near the Galleria mall. She wants to return it to its rightful owner, but that was almost impossible because of a close call.

Laura Fitton found the ring in the stairwell of a parking garage.

“I just want to get this woman her ring back she must be freaking out," said Fitton.

She was walking down the stairs when she happened to spot it.

“It’s been so cold in Boston these last few weeks, you take your glove off, grab something from your purse, put your glove back on you'd never notice the ring flew off,” said Fitton.

She immediately took to social media to try and find the woman who lost her wedding band.

She posted on Facebook, Craigslist and Twitter hoping to find the woman.

“For someone to lose a ring in a place like this they clearly were in the middle of doing something else and so chances are they have no idea when in their day or maybe even when in their week the ring went missing,” said Fitton.

But then at the end of the interview, the unthinkable happened, Fitton accidently dropped the ring.

“Oh my god, I can see it. It’s sitting flat right behind there but i have no idea how we would get to it,” said Fitton.

“She and I both frantically tried to reach it, but it was just out of my grasp,” said Kayna Whitworth, 7News.

“I got about that far to go

“Okay in the case of this mysterious ring Laura has accidentally dropped it and it fell down into this hole, so my photographer went and bought this thing and I have really weirdly long arms so we are going to see if we can get it out,” said Whitworth.

The ring was successfully recovered!

The ring will be with the Cambridge Police Department. Please call them if it's yours. Officers will need a detailed description of the ring.
