MALDEN, Mass. (WHDH) -- A 15-year-old student was arrested and charged with possession of a dangerous weapon after taking a double-edged knife to a K-8 school on Friday.

“He did not threaten anyone with it. He did show another student the knife. It was quickly confiscated. No one was in danger and he was actually arrested and brought to the station,” said Lt. Marc Gatcomb, Malden Police Department.

“It was reported to me as a 4-inch blade, kind of a locking knife,” said David Deruosi, Malden Schools superintendent.

Even though the student didn’t threaten anyone, the rules are clear.

“You don’t bring weapons to school. That’s just the bottom line,” said Lt. Gatcomb.

“Even a 2-inch knife is too big to have in school. It’s a safety issue,” said Deruosi.

“I was nervous because it came on that there was an incident at the Salemwood School in Malden and my granddaughter’s here and she’s a third grader and I got afraid,” said a concerned grandparent.

There was no incident, no violence or any injuries of any kind.

“No lockdown, no danger, no harm to the students at any time,” said Lt. Gatcomb.

But, the 15-year-old is now facing a lot of problems.

“He’s on a 10-day suspension until the principal can pull together expulsion here,” said Deruosi.

The student was transported to the juvenile court in Cambridge where he was formally arraigned for the one charge of possession of a dangerous weapon.
