GLOUCESTER, Mass. (WHDH) -- A nurse on the North Shore is facing multiple charges including assault and battery with a dangerous weapon after she allegedly injected a teenager with medication during an underage party at her home in Gloucester.

The teen apparently felt nauseous after drinking alcohol at the nurse’s home.

The woman, who works at a Rockport rehab center, was arraigned in court earlier this week. She faces a list of charges including providing alcohol to minors and reckless endangerment of a child.

The woman’s 17-year-old daughter invited friends over on Nov. 30 for a party. According to the police report, the underage teens were drinking and when the woman’s husband came home, he joined them in drinking and smoking marijuana.

Sometime after midnight, one of the teens fell ill. That’s when the 36-year-old nurse injected the girl with an unconfirmed drug to stop the nausea, according to police.

Neighbors say they never heard the party, and are surprised by the charges.

“I was a little shocked, actually. They’re really nice people,” said Amanda Perham, a neighbor.

The woman’s husband was not arrested, but could face charges.

The district attorney requested the woman be held on $10,000 cash bail and placed under house arrest, but the judge released her on personal recognizance.

It's unclear if the woman is still employed at the rehab center where she could have attained the medication.
