Father, son charged in theft from Mass. league
MEDFORD, Mass. (AP) -- A father and son have been accused of stealing more than $50,000 from a Medford Little League.
The Middlesex District Attorney's office said Thursday that 78-year-old Stanley Komins and 45-year-old Stephen Komins, both of Stoneham, have been charged with larceny. They're expected to be arraigned next week.
Prosecutors say Stanley Komins was president of the West Medford league's board and his son was treasurer.
They say the league audited its finances after the elder Komins refused to provide records when he resigned in 2011.
Prosecutors say an investigation showed the two wrote league checks to themselves and that Stanley Komins deposited proceeds from the snack stand into his own bank account.
A number for the Komins couldn't be located. Stanley Komins told The Boston Globe on Thursday he was unaware of the charges.
