BEVERLY, Mass. (WHDH) -- A 20-year-old Beverly woman was arrested after being accused of threatening to kill police officers and firefighters.

Investigators say nine police officers --including the chief -- were sent death threats Wednesday morning. Later in the day, a deputy fire chief received a similar note. In the emails the suspect allegedly explained, “You have all dealt with me,” and, “I have so much anger towards you people.”

According to police, the suspect was demanding cash from the people she targeted. She instructed them to leave the money at the Beverly library and threatened to blow up buildings and squad cars if she didn't get what she wanted.

In one of the emails, police said the woman told officers Beverly Hospital was “on the list to be blown up. The hospital was immediately placed on lockdown.

“Anytime you threaten the lives of the public, people in general, it's something we have to take seriously,” said Costa.

Investigators spent more than one day trying to trace the stream of emails but they say they finally caught the suspect when she accidentally sent them a picture of her location; the Beverly library. Police say she later admitted she planned to start a fire there.

Police say the suspect had lighters on her but there was no evidence of any bomb-making materials.

The suspect is currently in a group home run by the Department of Mental Health.

Police say the suspect has been arrested once before for assault and battery.

The woman faces nearly two dozen charges.
