ARLINGTON, Mass. (WHDH) -- An Arlington police officer was injured when he crashed his cruiser while responding to the report of a bank robbery Thursday morning.

Police are still investigating how the accident happened. They said the officer may have swerved to avoid another car. The officer’s injuries are not life threatening.

Meanwhile, other Arlington police officers are searching for a man who allegedly demanded money from the teller at a Citizen’s Bank shortly before 10 a.m. Police said the suspect was given money, but he dumped it behind the bank when a dye pack exploded. The suspect fled the scene.

“We do have some good video surveillance not only from the bank, but also from a number of retailers here along Massachusetts Avenue, so it’s actively under investigation. We feel confident we’ll be able to close this case,” said Arlington Police Chief Fred Ryan.

Police said the suspect was wearing a mask, baseball cap, sweatpants and sneakers when he entered the bank.

It is not clear if the suspect was armed.
