MALDEN, Mass. (WHDH) -- A teenager on a bicycle was shot near a Malden restaurant on Monday.

A 17 year old is being charged with attempted murder after shooting another 17 year old in a Malden parking lot Monday morning.

“I know it was a handgun. I did see him pull it out of his jacket and he held it out and just fired away,” said John Stelmach, who witnessed the shooting.

“I was across the street and I heard five gun shots. Boom, boom, boom, boom . I just seen someone in a hooded sweatshirt,” said Sue Hyde.

Witnesses near the parking lot of a Chinese food restaurant in Malden said the teenager on the bike took off after he was shot in the back. The shooter also fled.

“After he took three or four shots the kid just walked away -- started walking down the street like nothing happened,” said Stelmach.

“The kid was walking down the street and then he started trotting like it was nothing,” said Hyde.

Later in the morning, police armed with rifles searched for the suspect. They surrounded a nearby home.

“I didn’t even know what was going on. So I looked out the window and asked the cop what was going on,” said a neighbor.

Neighbors said the man who was finally led out and put under arrest doesn’t live at the home. Police said the shooting victim was found a few blocks from where he was shot.

“These kids think life is a video game. They take life easy,” said one woman.

Investigators aren’t saying what motivated the shooting, but they said the suspect and victim know each other.
