Tree crushes cars, downs power lines in Methuen

METHUEN, Mass. (WHDH) -- Cars were crushed and power lines were taken down in Methuen when a massive tree came crashing down.
“The tree was falling so I ran to the house screaming,” said Cynthia Crespo.
Crespo was in her backyard walking her dog when a tree came crashing down.
“All of a sudden I started hearing a crackling noise thinking, ‘maybe it’s my next-door neighbor working in the backyard or something. I didn’t think anything of it. And I walked behind the tree and I’m next to the tree, and I started hearing the noise louder and louder,” Crespo said.
When Crespo realized what was happening, she had just enough time to get out of the way.
“While I’m running, I can see it out of the corner of my eye. I could see the tree falling,” Crespo said.
The tree landed in the street. It crushed three cars and brought down power lines and two utility poles.
“I guess it’s an old, old tree. And I have three more standing back there,” Crespo said.
Crespo’s three children were in the house when the tree fell, and no one was hurt.
“They say I won the lottery. My life, you know, that I’m here. It could have been worse. It definitely could have been worse,” Crespo said.
Crespo said the three remaining trees in her backyard will be taken down.
