BANGOR, Maine (AP) -- Officials have removed three bodies from a burned-out car in Bangor, Maine, and placed them in the care of the state medical examiner's office.

Police Sgt. Paul Edwards says identities probably won't be released until after autopsies scheduled for Tuesday. The bodies were removed Monday afternoon.

The car fire was reported at 3:33 a.m. and the bodies were discovered after it was doused. A photo showed that the car had a Rhode Island license plate, but police declined to confirm that detail.

Police also declined to comment on surveillance video. Video from one business shows a couple of vehicles passing just minutes before a car burned, and a second surveillance video shows someone running away.

The fire was reported by a radio announcer who saw smoke and flames on her way to work.
