Dracut man hospitalized after being struck by ATV

DRACUT, Mass. (WHDH) -- A man was rushed to the hospital after being struck by an ATV late Wednesday night.
Police said a group of six had been riding dirt bikes and ATVs when an ATV hit a 36-year-old man on Methuen Street. They said it appears as if the man was upset by the speed the ATVs were traveling and entered the roadway to scare them.
The victim’s wife said two ATVs passed her husband, but a third came by without lights on and struck him.
“These ATVs with no headlights were going very fast. These weren’t your average ATVs, these seemed pretty souped up. They were going at a very high rate of speed. I went outside and saw two bodies that were lying in the street and another general running around saying, ‘Help my friend’,” said neighbor Dan Shanahan.
Of the six people on vehicles only two stayed on the scene, the others fled before police arrived.
Two people, the man who was hit and a 35-year-old Lowell man that was on an ATV, were taken to the hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.
