Mass. toddler survives after 2nd floor fall
LAWRENCE, Mass. (AP) -- A Haverhill toddler has escaped serious injury after falling from a second-floor window in Lawrence.
Police chief John Romero tells the Eagle-Tribune that 20-month-old Nehemiah Alvarez was treated and released at Lawrence Memorial Hospital after the accident at 9:50 a.m. Sunday
Police said the boy apparently pulled himself onto a bench near a set of open windows, then pushed through a screen and fell to the pavement below.
The boy had scrapes on his elbow and back. A police report said the boy and his mother, 20-year-old Samantha Scharn, are frequent guests at the home of Melissa Morkeski and had stayed overnight Sunday.
Romero said police are required to notify the state about the incident, which he said appears to be an accident.
