MALDEN, Mass. (WHDH) -- Motorists traveling through Malden Wednesday were caught in the middle of downpours which flooded many roadways.

Skies opened up quickly leaving motorists stranded in their cars. One motorist tried to drive through a flooded out road but became trapped in the car. That person was able to get out safely.

DPW workers scrambled to respond to one call after another to try to get the flooded roads reopened. They quickly cleaned out storm drains.

Thanks to their quick action, Broadway Street in Malden was reopened a short while after the flooding occurred.

Conditions continued to improve and temperatures cooled off as the day progressed. But a second wave of storms came through, along with more flooding. As of 6:15 p.m., cars were attempting to drive through a foot and a half of water that washed out Route 99.
