No charges after 2-year-old dies in accident

SAUGUS, Mass. (AP) -- Massachusetts prosecutors say no charges are being filed after a 2-year-old Peabody girl suffered fatal head injuries in an accidental fall.
Saugus police said the child fell out of the arms of a person carrying her to a car after a church service at about 2 p.m. Sunday. Police said the person reached into a car to turn on the ignition and start the air conditioner. The car then lurched forward and the person lost balance. Early reports said she was struck by a car.
On Monday, Saugus assistant Police Chief Lt. Leonard Campanello and the Essex District Attorney's office called it a tragic accident.
Police said the girl and her family had just attended services at the Brazilian Ministry of the Family United Methodist Church.
Authorities did not release their names.
