SALEM, Mass. (WHDH) -- Friends and family gathered in Salem Saturday night to remember 19-year-old Dillon Renard. He was killed early this morning when the car he was riding in slammed into a parked flat-bed.

A car smashed into a flat-bed truck around 3:30 Saturday morning on Boston Street in Salem. Renard was killed instantly. Driver, 25-year-old Angelique Griffin was arrested for driving drunk and charged with motor vehicle homicide. Witness Joe Journdan said the woman appeared hysterical afterwards.

“She was screaming, ‘I can't believe he's dead. I can't believe he's dead.’”

Friends and family remembered Renard Saturday night in an emotional candlelight vigil. He was two weeks shy of his 20th birthday.

Friends said Renard didn't know Griffin well, but they had been hanging out at his brother's house nearby when she offered to give him a ride home. He was due at work at 9 in the morning.

“He was so full of life. It was all taken away. We are heart-broken.”

“He was a real good kid. He didn't deserve this. Everybody loved him. He was just there to make everybody laugh. And make everybody happy.”

Griffin was released from the hospital with minor injuries. She remains in jail tonight and will be arraigned on Monday.
