DANVERS, Mass. (WHDH) -- Phillip Chism appeared in court wearing a jumpsuit where he stands accused of murdering his math teacher Colleen Ritzer, but friends and family said that isn’t the Phillip they know.

“This is the furthest thing from reality for me to believe that Philip could get entangled in something like this,” Chism’s uncle Terence Blaine said.

The 14-year-old had just moved to Danvers from Tennessee where his former soccer coach remembers him as a likeable kid.

“He was kind of quiet, he got along well with other kids. He played and enjoyed game he didn't cause trouble not at practice at games. He seemed like average kid everyday kid,” Mark Nolan Said.

Chism’s friends from Tennessee said he wasn’t the violent type.

“He was never violent he was just always cool with everybody fit in with every group. Nobody had problems with him,” Tyler Williard said.
