FRAMINGHAM, Mass. (WHDH) -- A Framingham contractor was given a big job to do.

It’s been hired to make some monumental repairs in the nation's capitol.

Perini Management Services has snagged the $9.6 million contract to repair the Washington Monument.

The landmark has been closed since it was damaged in last August’s earthquake.

Officials said some of the worst damage is near the top.

That will take the longest to fix.

The reflecting pool adjacent to the monument isn't doing much reflecting due to algae growing in the water.

To fix the problem, experts said they need to treat what's there and prevent more algae from growing.

They’ve hired contractors to remove the algae which doesn't present any safety or health issues.
