SHIRLEY, Mass. (WHDH) -- A Shirley woman woke to loud popping and banging sounds Tuesday around 3 a.m. and quickly realized that both her front porch and car were engulfed in flames.

The fast moving fire destroyed the vehicle entirely.

“The insurance fellow told me, he said, ‘I’ve seen a lot of burnt cars, but I’ve never seen one burnt like that,” said victim, Kathryne Walsh.

Her adult son used a garden hose in an attempt to keep the flames from spreading before firefighters arrived on scene. Fire investigators said the fire was a product of an arson attack.

“It just doesn’t make any sense. It doesn’t fit,” said Walsh.

Police found that not only was the car on fire, but the door was pried open.

“The car was exploding. It has a full tank of gas in it. I was so afraid that thing was going to blow sky high. I was afraid for the firefighters,” said Walsh.

Walsh is angry that someone would set her car on fire. But, she also fears the fact that she was targeted.

“The thing that really bothers me so much is that whoever did it wasn’t far away. Were they watching? It’s just mind boggling that someone would do this,” said Walsh.
