MALDEN, Mass. (WHDH) -- A manhole cover exploded and flew into the air in Malden on Wednesday.

The manhole is located on a busy sidewalk in Malden. Without warning, the manhole cover popped off about one foot in the air and steam started pouring out of it.

Witnesses said they heard a loud bang around 10 a.m.

Emergency crews arrived on scene within minutes and began inspecting the manhole.

There were no injuries or power outages caused by the explosion.
