Murder trial of Wayland teen postponed
WOBURN, Mass. (AP) -- The trial of a Wayland man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend and dumping her body in a marsh has been postponed to give the defense more time to prepare.
A lawyer for Nathaniel Fujita told a Middlesex Superior Court judge Tuesday that it would be impossible for him to be ready for the scheduled Oct. 29 trial date because of the large amount of evidence he needs to review.
The MetroWest Daily News reported that prosecutor agreed.
The new trial date is Jan. 22.
The 19-year-old Fujita is charged with murder in the death of 18-year old Lauren Astley in July 2011. The two had dated for years. They both graduated from Wayland High last year.
Fujita has pleaded not guilty and is being held without bail.
