Teen makes prom proposal of Olympic proportions

NEEDHAM, Mass. (WHDH) -- A Needham teenager went the extra yard with his prom proposal to now-Olympian Aly Raisman.
For Aly, his creative idea was as good as gold.
Asking a girl to prom is a heady task for any high school senior, but what about when she's Aly Raisman?
“I mean hey, she's an Olympian. You gotta go big, you know?” Jamie McGill, Raisman’s prom date.
Jamie McGill has been friends with Aly since 7th grade. He had been thinking about asking her to this year's prom for a while. But it was Aly's brother who gave Jamie a head's up that he should ask before pre-Olympics activities filled her schedule.
“He's like, ‘Us Weekly's coming to the house tomorrow to do a photo shoot and stuff. You probably should ask her tonight,’ so here I am, freaking out, I’m panicking like, ‘what do I do, what do I do?’” McGill explained.
His big proposal: using Christmas lights to write “prom” with a question mark. Aly's parents helped Jamie out by tricking her into going to the Needham High football field.
“So she pulled up to the high school. I was standing there with the roses,” McGill said.
Her answer: a resounding yes. Jamie says they had a great time, despite Aly having to skip the after parties for training the next morning.
The 19-year-old insists the two are just friends, not actually dating. Still, he'll always be able to say he had an Olympic gymnast as a prom date.
But what about as a girlfriend one day?
“We'll be super busy and stuff, but I would love to, yeah. I mean, she's a really cool girl. I mean, I could see things working out,” McGill said.
