Anonymous tip opens 23-year-old Woburn cold case

WOBURN, Mass. (WHDH) -- A Woburn cold case is getting some renewed attention after almost 23 years.
Volunteers are combing through a wooded area in Stoneham for clues in the unsolved 1989 disappearance of 14-year-old Melanie Melanson.
The search was prompted by an anonymous tip to a private investigator working for the Melanson family.
Melanson disappeared after attending a party in the woods with friends.
Her body was never found and her family is hoping for some closure.
"We're just hoping we can get some answers...beyond being able to explain it," said Frank Mascuilli, Melanson’s uncle.
In 2009, the District Attorney’s office announced a $5,000 reward for information that might help solve the case.
