NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (AP) -- A Northampton man is due in court on a new 42-count indictment charging him with setting a series of fires, including one that killed an 81-year-old World War II veteran and his son.

A Hampshire County grand jury indicted 27-year-old Anthony Baye this week on murder, arson and other charges relating to 26 fires from 2007 and 2009. He is to be arraigned Thursday.

Baye was arrested in January 2010. Prosecutors recently dropped the original homicide and arson charges and opened a new grand jury investigation after the state's highest court threw out his confession. He remained jailed on charges of misleading authorities investigating the fires.

Baye confessed setting the fires after 10 hours of police interrogation. Baye's attorney has said his client maintains his innocence and was forced into a false confession.
