Lowell woman accused of attempted murder

LOWELL, Mass. (WHDH) -  A 33-year-old Lowell woman accused of attempted murder after a woman was found with life threatening injuries. Jessica Garcia was arraigned late this afternoon. She was accused of trying to kill a woman who she was living with.

The victim was beaten with a hammer. She was hit 11 times with the claw end of the hammer.

The attack happened inside the victim's apartment. She was found very early Sunday morning.

Court records said officers had to break the door down. The dead bolt was blocked. Police heard faint cries from inside the apartment. They observed a large amount of blood and located the victim suffering severe head injuries. When police got to the victim she said to them that she did not want to die. It appeared that she had approximately 11 injuries to her head, face and neck area from the claw end of a hammer.

The victim has been put in a medically induced coma. The victim's family said she will survive this but she has a very long recovery ahead.

Garcia, whose lengthy criminal history was discussed in court, is being held on very high bail.
