MEDWAY, Mass. -- A police chase comes to a crashing end in Medford on Friday when a suspected drunk driver slammed into a state trooper's cruiser, according to officers.

Dana Scovil, 36, appeared in court after the police chase left the cruiser a mangled mess.

“The pursuit ended with a head-on into the cruiser that is on the scene. Reportedly, the trooper was on his way to work,” said Robert Shea, the assistant district attorney.

Police said the trooper saw the pursuit and tried to help by positioning his cruiser on the median of Route 109 in Medway.

Officials said the trouble started in Milford. A manager at a restaurant there told police that Scovil was calling and making threats to an ex-girlfriend.

A Milford officer then positioned himself in the restaurant’s parking lot. He said when Scovil pulled up around 10 p.m. and saw the cruiser, he took off.

The officer said that Scovil refused to pull over and swerved across the double-yellow lines several times. The suspect then made his way into Medway, threw a beer can out his truck window, and didn’t stop until he crashed into two cars, including the cruiser.

This is the seventh crash involving a state trooper this year.

Just last week, Donna Sclamo was charged for allegedly driving drunk and rear-ending the State Police Colonel’s unmarked vehicle.

“My client has had a series of mental health issues,” said Johanna Yoffie, the defense attorney.

Scovil’s defense attorney said her client needs to go to a mental health facility and not jail. But, the judge decided to set his bail at $10,000 cash.

He will be in court next month.
