Greenwich preparing for prince and polo match
GREENWICH, Conn. (AP) -- Connecticut's Gold Coast is preparing for a royal visit.
Great Britain's Prince Harry wraps up his U.S. tour Wednesday with a celebrity polo match at the Greenwich Polo Club. There are only 400 tickets to the invitation-only event.
The Greenwich Time reports the guest list will include top names in the fashion industry, many of whom are connected to Stephanie Seymour, the former model who is married to the club's billionaire founder, Peter Brant.
Brant will join the prince in playing in the Sentebale Royal Salute Polo Cup, a charity event. The Sentebale charity was set up by Prince Harry and Prince Seeiso of Lesotho in memory of their mothers to aid needy children in that African country.
The newspaper reported that the guest list at the polo match includes designers Valentino and Jason Wu, who created inauguration dresses for Michelle Obama. Models, including Karolina Kurkova, Carolyn Murphy and Delfina Blaquier, are also expected to attend.
Blaquier is married to polo star Nacho Figueras, who is playing in the match.
At least one Greenwich boutique is using the event to do a little public relations.
The Time reports that owners of Atelier360 on Greenwich Avenue plan to serve tea from noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday and will feature British designers in the store.
"We're having cocktails all day for free," store owner Veronique Lee told the newspaper. "We're also having little tea sandwiches, we're asking customers to dress up and wear hats and we'll be having high tea. We're going to have fun."
