ROXBURY, Mass. (WHDH) -- Two ninth grade students were hit by a car on Malcolm X Boulevard Monday morning.

The accident happened just before 8 a.m. outside O'Bryant High School in Roxbury.

The girls were hit just feet from the crosswalk. It was unclear if they were in the crosswalk or ahead of it. The vehicle was travelling east on Malcolm X Boulevard when he struck the two girls.

The two girls were taken to Boston area hospitals. They were said to have non-life threatening injuries.

Officers said a junior operator was blinded by solar glare when he hit the students. It’s possible he may not have seen them. Investigators aren’t sure if the driver was also a student at the high school. He wasn’t injured, but was visibly upset.

The driver’s car sustained considerable damage to the front and windshield.

Officers were on the scene talking to some of the students who were about to go to school as they tried to piece together what happened.

Thaddeus Pritchard said he knew one day an accident like this would happen.

“I’ve lived here over 30 years, see so much goes on around here and that’s one particular thing…the cars speeding up and down,” said Pritchard.

There were no charges filed. The accident remains under investigation.

The car was towed away and Malcolm X Boulevard was reopened to traffic shortly before 10 a.m.
