BOSTON (WHDH) -- Passengers on Delta flight 2101 to Atlanta were evacuated on the runway at Logan Airport Thursday evening.

A spokesperson for Delta said the airplane encountered an issue with one of its wheel brake mechanisms on the taxiway.

“We were taxing out to the runway and one of the brakes locked up on the right side wheel. The captain notified us that a fire truck would be following us back to the terminal and apparently the brake caught fire as we were taxing back, so they evacuated all the passengers off the plane,” said Kevin Davis, a passenger who was evacuated from the airplane.

The 143 passengers deplaned on the tarmac and were bused to the terminal.

Davis said everyone was calm and the captain kept everyone informed.

First responders were dispatched to the aircraft. Delta technicians are examining the aircraft in cooperation with airport officials, according to the Delta spokesperson.

The flight was scheduled to leave Boston at 4:01 p.m. Passengers will be put on another plane to Atlanta.

The FAA is looking into the issue. No injuries were reported.

The plane was set to take off at 11 p.m. Thursday.
